A United Kingdom (12) 18th November 2017

‘A United Kingdom’ is based on extraordinary true events. From director Amma Asante (Belle) and starring David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike, set against the breath-taking backdrops of the African savannah and period London, ‘A United Kingdom’ celebrates the inspiring real-life romance of Seretse Khama, King of Bechuanaland, and Ruth Williams, the London office worker he married in 1948 in the face of fierce opposition from their families and the British and South African governments.  Nothing prepares them for the diplomatic firestorm and domestic political tumult their defiant love would spark. Against all odds, King Khama and Ruth must struggle to maintain their love and help their people in a land that would become the Republic of Botswana. One of the greatest love stories ever told.
