Report: Gordon Giltrap Concert, 11th August 2018

This has to have been one of the best concerts Hindolveston Village Hall has ever seen. The evening opened with a superb set of South American classical music by Andy Cleveland, a very talented local musician from Wells-next-the-Sea.

Then on to the main event. A virtuoso display from Gordon Giltrap of acoustic guitar mainly comprising self penned pieces interspersed with some hilarious anecdotes from his illustrious musical background. The first set ended with his iconic ‘Dodo’s Dream’, an impressive demonstration of what can be done with a ‘Looper pedal’ (Youtube it).

After the break, during which Gordon chatted with the audience and signed a plethora of items including CDs, Singles, LPs, posters etc., Gordon continued where he left off. The evening seemed to build, with the pieces becoming more intricate and the audience becoming even more enthusiastic. The evening finished with “a medley of his greatest hit!!” (Gordon’s words) ‘Heartsong’. This was followed by an early piece called Lucifer’s Cage, which required enormous energy to perform.

His encore was an amazingly lyrical piece written for his wife Hilary. This left the audience spellbound and beaming.

Thunderous applause followed………….simply the most outstanding evening!!
