The Old Oak is the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once thriving mining community. TJ Ballantyne, the landlord, hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his hold is endangered even more when The Old Oak becomes contested territory, after the arrival of Syrian refugees
“A compassionate refugee drama from Ken Loach…. an honest piece of work tackling many of the themes that have always driven him…a forthright, hopeful film” – The Independent

Saturday February 17th – “THE GREAT ESCAPER” (12A)
The last film of Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. In 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines as he staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans in Normandy, commemorating the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. Bernie’s 48-hour adventure also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene (Glenda Jackson). A story that captured the imagination of the world, as Bernie embodied the defiant “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing – an inspirational retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.
“A moving and surprisingly nuanced drama, offering far more than flag-waving nostalgia” – Empire.
