  • Notice: Crafts in Action Workshops Spring 2018

Hindolveston Crafts in Action began with a series of workshops introducing people to various crafts. Twenty-one years later many of those students are still enjoying using the skills they learnt then.

Now we are holding another set of workshops in the Village Hall.  The first will be screen printing on 17th March (£30 per person), then “Cut, Stick and Stitch” appliqué on 14th April (£15 per person) followed by Rag Rug Making on 5th May (£25 per person). They are all on a Saturday and all equipment and materials will be provided.

All of the courses are run by experienced tutors and are subsidised by Crafts in Action. To book, please contact Julie Lovett on 861789 or julielovettcrafts@gmail.

  • Report Hindol Crafts in Action on Tour – 2017

The first ever venture out of the village proved to be a great success. The hardy crafters of the village Crafts in Action group transformed four beach hut cabins at Dalegate Market in Burnham Deepdale to create Hindolveston’s own pop up craft market. The market lasted for 6 days between Thursday 22nd and Tuesday 27th June 2017.

Despite hailstones when we were setting up and rain when we were leaving, we were lucky with the weather and the sun shone every day. We had willow weavers, rope crafts, screen prints, modern textiles, photographs, patchwork, crochet baskets, woodturning, wool and knitted items plus leatherwork and feltwork.  Our group was well represented and there were lots of beautiful crafts for our customers to choose from.

Thanks to everyone from the village who came to visit us and show their support, especially Doug and Heather Kettle who brought sausage rolls and cake with them to help sustain us.

The next C-in-A event is on Sunday 13th August when we will be demonstrating our various crafts in Hindolveston Village Hall – check out the post. After that, the Christmas Craft Market 2017 will be in the Village Hall over the first weekend of December: Saturday 2nd (evening only) and all day on Sunday 3rd December. A separate post will be published later this year.

  • Report: Bollards Away March 2017

There are 10 bollards in the Village Hall car park and on Sat 18th March 2017 all were decorated by the Crafts in Action group and friends in this inaugural event. Despite some very drizzly weather, great fun was had by all as the dressers’ efforts were bolstered by advice/ encouragement from spectators and an abundance of free home-made cakes.

The result was a variety of costumes ranging from exterminating to shirty, crocheted to forested, mystifyingly political to just plain silly, some with sombreros, one with a beret and even one masquerading as an owl – What a Hoot!!!

The members of Craft in Action were so pleased with the result that they plan to make this an annual event – you have been warned. Long before then, however, the village crafters are getting back to some serious work, building up stocks in time for the next event: a pop up craft market at Burnham Deepdale from June 22nd to 27th.

Beware – the Crafts in Action group are On Tour!!!

Take a look at a snap shot of the entries below:

  • The Art of Bollard Dressing Sat 18th March 2017

    Never Mind the Bollards

If Derbyshire can bring you Well Dressing, if a supermarket can offer Salad Dressing, then why can’t Hindolveston stage the art of Bollard Dressing!!!

Hindolveston Art in Action is reviving the long forgotten art of Bollard Dressing in the Village Hall car park on the Saturday closest to the Ides of March; this is deemed the most auspicious date for this event.

The sad fact is that 10 naked bollards are patiently waiting to be clothed by teams from across the village where the only limits are imagination.

Please join us on Saturday 18th March from 2 – 4pm.  All are welcome but teams of children need to bring their own adult.  Tea and cake will be provided.

Email mailto:[email protected] to register your team or just turn up on the day.  You’ll find more information on the Hindolveston-crafts-in-action Facebook page. This opportunity, to brighten up the dull lives of a bollard for just one day in the year, is absolutely free and is brought to you by Hindolveston Crafts in Action.

  • Craft in Action Demonstration Day 13th August 2017

Visit the Village Hall on Sunday 13th August 2017 to meet the various craftsmen and women of the village who will be demonstrating the making of their wares during the day. Literally Craft in Action!

This is a great opportunity to meet some of the village’s talented people and witness their skill first hand in a friendly and informal way.

Doors will open at 10 am and the event will run until 4 pm. Refreshments will be available in the hall.
