  • Report: Hindol Tea Dance 13th September 2019

A good time was had by all at the Village Hall 1940’s Tea Dance in September.  Many thanks go to Mike and Alison Thomas of the Old Bakery B&B for organising the event.  They were inspired by their regular guests, John & Lorna, who stay every year for the Holt & Sheringham 40’s weekend. They provided the decorations for the hall and came along and danced all evening.  DJ Major Swing and Kitty were inspiring (and patient) teachers of some of the wartime dances including the St Bernard’s Waltz, the Foxtrot and the Palais Glide.

Everyone dressed up for the occasion and some did so in 1940’s attire.  Judging for the Best Dressed Couple was difficult, with some very well turned out dancers.  The prize went to sailor and landgirl, George and Pearl Kemp.  Tea and cake were well received and the bar did a good trade, too. The event raised £266 for the village hall extension fund and put a smile on many faces.

If you would like to organise a fundraising event for the village hall, please contact one of the committee and we’ll be happy to help out.

  • Notice: Centenary Birthday – 7th August 2019

Derek Sands is now probably the oldest resident in Hindolveston. He will shortly be celebrating his really “Big Birthday” on Wednesday, 7th August when he reaches the grand old age of 100. On the day he will be holding a birthday party as an informal “Afternoon Tea” in Hindolveston Village Hall from 2pm until 4pm. All are most welcome to come along and share this celebration with him & he is keen that as many of you who know him should do so. Everyone, please feel free to drop in for a cuppa, a piece of cake and light refreshments sometime during the two hours. The more that come along the merrier … and Derek won’t be happy if he’s eating stale cake all of the following week!

Derek has also stated that he does not want any presents but if people so wished, he would be delighted if they would make donations to either the British Heart Foundation or to a cancer charity.

If you know that you will definitely be coming along, please could you indicate your intention to Elaine Stearman – either by emailing her at [email protected] (preferred if you can) or phoning her on 01263 – 861428. That’s just to give us some idea of overall numbers likely to attend – it’s not essential; so still feel free to just drop by at the Village Hall on the afternoon of 7th August.’
