• The Village Hall – temporary closure from 17th March 2020

Following government advice that people should avoid social contact due to the dangers posed by Coronavirus, Hindolveston Village Hall Committee has decided to close the Hall until further notice.  We realise that the Hall provides important opportunities for people to get together and have made this decision with heavy hearts.  We rely on our incredible group of volunteers to run all our events, coffee shop, the Friday bar, cinema, etc. and have to consider their safety as well as that of the hall users.

The Hall will be closed until we are advised that it is safe for people to mix again, until then all regular classes and activities will be cancelled and any special events postponed.

Contact details for the Village Hall Committee can be found in the Village Hall section of this website.

  • Message from the Village Hall Committee March 2020

Well, what a state of affairs, me hearties.  Never knowed nuthin like it in me life!

You will not be surprised to hear from me (although possibly rather sad) that at the meeting of the village hall meeting this very evening, a decision was taken that the hall be closed for all activities until further notice. Sad as this is, it cannot be altogether surprising. To those of you who pursue tutored activities in the hall, I can say that a committee member is even now contacting all hall hirers to put them in the gloomy picture.

I am not certain, but as I read things, there will be precious little point in my sending out a What’s On next month (for April); I hope to be proved wrong, but it already seems too close to the end of March for there to be a sea change in the national situation.  So, until we meet electronically again, take precautions and stay safe.  Look out for your neighbours, should dire need arise, but otherwise keep your fingers, hands, noses, sneezes and coughs to yourselves.

I hope I’ll be sending out a What’s On in early May.  But there again, I May not.  Boom boom!

Best to everybody in this once in a lifetime situation.

    Graham

    And a message from Graham

Hindolveston village hall is a fantastic resource for us all, but truth be told, this ageing building, the  former village school, is a hole for money.  The committee who manage the building have achieved
marvellous things over the past few years, and what’s more, they have loads of other bright ideas up their sleeveses for the future of the building.  Trouble is, of course, that bright ideas cost bright, shiny money, and although grants for improvements have been applied for, there is still a shortfall in what is needed.  In fact, what is needed is a sizeable donation (i.e. NOT a loan) which will satisfy the major grant awarder to release the largest chunk of funding applied for. So this really is our last chance to get these grants so that the improvements may go ahead.  But even more tantalising, the donation must be made this month.  Gulp indeed!

So . . . Audrey and I are willing to put our money where our mouth is (so to speak), but we cannot make the entire donation ourselves.  Who will help us raise £7500 by the end of March?  What you can afford to donate doesn’t really matter – £7500 divided by two or three is still a large individual donation, but £7500 divided by, stay fifteen (or more) is MUCH less daunting.

This is my plea to everyone uses and cares for our village hall: show the love.  NOW, IN THE MOMENT OF GREAT NEED.
We’re in.  Who will join us?

If you are able and would like to donate, please email me in the first instance.  Thank you
