Instead, he’s picked up by Sang-Hyun, who runs an unofficial ‘adoption brokerage’ and plans to find him a new home. So-Young tracks down both Sang-Hyun and his business partner, and decides to join their pursuit – unaware they’re being tailed by two detectives who are determined to stop them. “A very poignant and sweet and engaging film from start to finish” – IMDb

Saturday March 16th – “THE OLD OAK” (15)

A hard-hitting political drama directed by Ken Loach, starring Dave Turner and Ebia Mari. The Old Oak is the only remaining public space where people can meet in a once thriving mining community. TJ Ballantyne, the landlord, hangs on to The Old Oak by his fingertips, and his hold is endangered even more when The Old Oak becomes contested territory, after the arrival of Syrian refugees
“A compassionate refugee drama from Ken Loach…. an honest piece of work tackling many of the themes that have always driven him…a forthright, hopeful film” – The Independent

Saturday February 17th – “THE GREAT ESCAPER” (12A)
The last film of Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson. In 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines as he staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans in Normandy, commemorating the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. Bernie’s 48-hour adventure also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene (Glenda Jackson). A story that captured the imagination of the world, as Bernie embodied the defiant “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing – an inspirational retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.
“A moving and surprisingly nuanced drama, offering far more than flag-waving nostalgia” – Empire.

Step by step, a spark is ignited in Harold as he rediscovers the majesty of the world and gains the strength to face the grief that has driven him and his wife apart. BARBIE (12)

Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling) are having the time of their lives in the colourful and seemingly perfect world of Barbie Land. However, when they get a chance to go to the real world, they soon discover the joys and perils of living among humans. “To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.” An unexpected joy… ironic, sardonic, and very very funny!
“A riotous, candy-coloured feminist fable – Barbie takes a ride from her dream house to reality, as director Greta Gerwig takes another cultural icon and lovingly subverts it” – The Guardian

PORTRAIT OF A LADY ON FIRE (15)

A haunting French costume drama set in the 18th century. Painter Marianne is commissioned by an affluent countess to paint the wedding portrait of her sheltered but headstrong daughter Héloïse.  While posing as her hired companion, Marianne is instructed to complete the portrait in secret, observing Héloïse by day and painting her by night. However, as the two women grow closer, their intimacy and attraction begins to blossom, paving the way for a simmering, star-crossed romance. French language with English subtitles.
“Mesmerised by the female gaze, this is a perceptive, erotic exploration of power” (The Guardian).

    Saturday November 18th

    THE LOST KING  (12A)

In 2012, the remains of King Richard III were discovered beneath a carpark in Leicester, by an amateur historian, Philippa Langley (Sally Hawkins), whose unrelenting research had been met with scepticism by experts and academics.’ The Lost King’ is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.
“Warmly funny and historically curious, Sally Hawkins’ spirited, humane performance leaves you reaching for the history books” (Empire).
