• Report: Bollards Away March 2017

There are 10 bollards in the Village Hall car park and on Sat 18th March 2017 all were decorated by the Crafts in Action group and friends in this inaugural event. Despite some very drizzly weather, great fun was had by all as the dressers’ efforts were bolstered by advice/ encouragement from spectators and an abundance of free home-made cakes.

The result was a variety of costumes ranging from exterminating to shirty, crocheted to forested, mystifyingly political to just plain silly, some with sombreros, one with a beret and even one masquerading as an owl – What a Hoot!!!

The members of Craft in Action were so pleased with the result that they plan to make this an annual event – you have been warned. Long before then, however, the village crafters are getting back to some serious work, building up stocks in time for the next event: a pop up craft market at Burnham Deepdale from June 22nd to 27th.

Beware – the Crafts in Action group are On Tour!!!

Take a look at a snap shot of the entries below:

  • Vacancy for a Parish Councillor to start in May 2017

    Your Parish Council needs you!!

There is a great opportunity to contribute to the running of your village because there is a vacancy on the Parish Council. Do you think you could contribute to the Council? We are looking for someone who has a healthy interest in helping to make Parish Council decisions. Prior experience is not necessary, just a positive and open attitude. Meetings are on the third Thursday of each month (excluding December and August) from 7.30pm. More information about the role of a councillor can be found in the downloadable booklet It Takes All Sorts.

If you are interested please contact us by 20th April so we can consider all candidates ahead of the Annual Parish Council meeting on 18th May. We may also ask to meet for an informal meeting to get to know you better.

You can express your interest in a variety of ways: by contacting the clerk, Joanna Otte, on [email protected] or The Chair, Trevor Leeder, at 91 The Street or via any of the Councillors. See https://hindolvestonparishcouncil.norfolkparishes.gov.uk/parish-council/councillors/ for the full list of members and a little bit more background info.

Just a short letter or a call is all that is needed at this stage. Don’t be afraid to step up – the commitment is not too onerous! Many Thanks for your consideration.

  • The Art of Bollard Dressing Sat 18th March 2017

    Never Mind the Bollards

If Derbyshire can bring you Well Dressing, if a supermarket can offer Salad Dressing, then why can’t Hindolveston stage the art of Bollard Dressing!!!

Hindolveston Art in Action is reviving the long forgotten art of Bollard Dressing in the Village Hall car park on the Saturday closest to the Ides of March; this is deemed the most auspicious date for this event.

The sad fact is that 10 naked bollards are patiently waiting to be clothed by teams from across the village where the only limits are imagination.

Please join us on Saturday 18th March from 2 – 4pm.  All are welcome but teams of children need to bring their own adult.  Tea and cake will be provided.

Email mailto:[email protected] to register your team or just turn up on the day.  You’ll find more information on the Hindolveston-crafts-in-action Facebook page. This opportunity, to brighten up the dull lives of a bollard for just one day in the year, is absolutely free and is brought to you by Hindolveston Crafts in Action.

  • Family Service at St George’s 12th March 2017

A Family Service aimed at children and the YOUNG AT HEART!! is being conducted at St George’s church on 12th March starting at 11 am. All ages welcome.

It will be taken by our Lay Reader Carol Sexton.

  • Youth Club Planning Meeting 15th March 2017

A planning meeting to discuss the future development of the village Youth Club will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 15th March at White House Farm.

The Youth Club will come under the Parish Council umbrella from an administrative point of view but it really needs adult volunteers, for example parents to contribute to the running of the activities.

If you feel you could possibly offer some ideas or support, however small, then please come to the meeting and discuss the way forward over a glass of wine.

Please phone Mary if you have any questions on 01263 861664 or email using [email protected]

  • Storm Doris – Prep for Possible Power Loss

From UK Power  Networks @ Wed 22nd Feb 2017

You may have seen that bad weather is on the way and we are likely to see high winds in parts of the East of England tomorrow (Thursday, 23 February).

Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can damage overhead power lines resulting in some customers losing their electricity supply.  Where this happens we work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, and we have organised for additional staff in our contact centre and more engineers on the ground to be available to help customers whose electricity supply might be affected by the predicted weather.

You will be able to find regular updates on our website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk and social media @ukpowernetworks throughout this period.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

UK Power Networks has a Priority Service Register for customers who may be more vulnerable and require extra assistance in a power cut. You can find out more information on our website: ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority.

We advise people to stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 – free to call from a landline or a mobile phone. If they see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public they should call 999.

    Preparing for a power cut

Below is some additional advice on how you can prepare for a power cut:

    • Keep our freephone number handy
    • See the website for some useful videos offering you advice during a power cut.
    • Keep spare batteries for radios and torches – local radio stations often broadcast helpful information
    • Keep an old-fashioned corded phone which you can plug in, as cordless phones won’t work in the event of a power cut
    • Take care if using candles, tea-lights and other naked flames
    • Keep fridges and freezers closed, with a blanket over as they will stay cold for many hours
    • Switch off all your electrical equipment, except one light which will let you know when the power comes back on
    • Remember the street lights may also be off so take care if you go out
    • Look out for elderly neighbours and other vulnerable people; please consider taking them round a flask of hot water or hot food
  • Mr 100-Club calls it a day after 25 years

The Hindolveston 100 Club has reached the end of the road – A VERY LONG ROAD! As of now the 100 Club has been shut down.

Hard to believe, but village stalwart Peter Patten has been trudging the streets collecting subscriptions to benefit the Village Hall funds for nearly 25 years. Now, having worn out several pairs of shoes and got older himself in the process, he says the journey’s over.

Peter Patten leaves it without fanfare but his contribution to Village Hall funds will be sorely missed. Single-handed over the period Peter has raised around an astonishing £14,000!

On behalf of everyone in the Village Hall Committee and the people of Hindolveston who continue to use the hall, please accept our unreserved thanks to you Peter. The hall is open to everyone as a focal hub for community activity and we hope there are still people in the village who will also demonstrate such community spirit, which is essential for the continued viability of the Village Hall.
