  • Highways Maintenance – Local Area Teams

The Community and Environmental Services department of Norfolk County Council (NCC), which covers Highways, has recently sent a letter to Town and Parish Councils to inform them of a reorganisation of our Local Highways Maintenance Teams. This can be downloaded here.

For the purposes of highways maintenance, Norfolk is divided into a North, West and South zone, each with sectors. As far as Hindolveston is concerned, it is in North 1 sector and is under the remit of Mr Steve White who is based in Aylsham. A map showing the regional sectors can be downloaded here.

Reporting a Problem with the Roads

Highways advise that the best way to report a problem is via the Roads and Transport section of the NCC website, the click on ‘Report a problem’. If you would like to track the status of your report you will need to create a customer account if you have not already registered or sign in to your existing customer account before reporting.

Registering is straight forward but not absolutely necessary to report a problem. The advantage of registering is that you can return to the website later to track progress.

  • Leaking Pond affecting the Fulmodeston Road – UPDATE

Anyone who has driven West out of the village will have noticed that Fulmodeston Road is always wet and large puddles are ever present in the dip as you leave the village boundary. This is particularly annoying if you have just washed your car!! Apart from anything else a constant leak, such as this, is likely to undermine the integrity of the road in that area.

This matter was raised at the most recent meeting of the Parish Council in March and it was reported that the pond at Blue Tile Farm is leaking on to the road and that it could be that an outlet pipe was broken when UK Power Networks replaced a pole in the vicinity. It seems that the pipe was not replaced but fixed using a sleeve, however, it is highly likely that this is the cause of the problem.

The Clerk is following up the complaint with the relevant companies, including Anglian Water and UK Power Networks. This post will be updated if any progress is reported back ahead of the next Parish Council meeting in July.

The problem was reported to Norfolk County Council (NCC) and The Highways department is investigating.

UPDATE 16 June 2017: Following the latest Parish Council meeting in June, it was reiterated that Mr Steve White of the Highways department is following the matter up directly with UK Power Networks (no change since the May meeting).

  • Report: Bollards Away March 2017

There are 10 bollards in the Village Hall car park and on Sat 18th March 2017 all were decorated by the Crafts in Action group and friends in this inaugural event. Despite some very drizzly weather, great fun was had by all as the dressers’ efforts were bolstered by advice/ encouragement from spectators and an abundance of free home-made cakes.

The result was a variety of costumes ranging from exterminating to shirty, crocheted to forested, mystifyingly political to just plain silly, some with sombreros, one with a beret and even one masquerading as an owl – What a Hoot!!!

The members of Craft in Action were so pleased with the result that they plan to make this an annual event – you have been warned. Long before then, however, the village crafters are getting back to some serious work, building up stocks in time for the next event: a pop up craft market at Burnham Deepdale from June 22nd to 27th.

Beware – the Crafts in Action group are On Tour!!!

Take a look at a snap shot of the entries below:

  • Vacancy for a Parish Councillor to start in May 2017

    Your Parish Council needs you!!

There is a great opportunity to contribute to the running of your village because there is a vacancy on the Parish Council. Do you think you could contribute to the Council? We are looking for someone who has a healthy interest in helping to make Parish Council decisions. Prior experience is not necessary, just a positive and open attitude. Meetings are on the third Thursday of each month (excluding December and August) from 7.30pm. More information about the role of a councillor can be found in the downloadable booklet It Takes All Sorts.

If you are interested please contact us by 20th April so we can consider all candidates ahead of the Annual Parish Council meeting on 18th May. We may also ask to meet for an informal meeting to get to know you better.

You can express your interest in a variety of ways: by contacting the clerk, Joanna Otte, on [email protected] or The Chair, Trevor Leeder, at 91 The Street or via any of the Councillors. See https://hindolvestonparishcouncil.norfolkparishes.gov.uk/parish-council/councillors/ for the full list of members and a little bit more background info.

Just a short letter or a call is all that is needed at this stage. Don’t be afraid to step up – the commitment is not too onerous! Many Thanks for your consideration.
