  • Bygone Memories – Hindolveston by Philip J Chapman

Residents may be interested to read an excellent article in the December 2017 edition of the Suffolk Norfolk Life magazine. Philip does not live in the village but discovered Hindolveston during a search for his cousins.

The article takes readers on a bygone ‘tour’ to show how the village appeared around 100 years ago. It includes 11 photos, some of which were made available from the gallery section of this website.

  • Notice: Dog Poo Collection

There are 3 dog poo bins located in Hindolveston:

    • In the Recreation Ground car park
    • On Church Lane
    • On Pinfold Lane

The Parish Council pays the North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) to provide a licenced poo collection service every 2 weeks. This happens on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Dog owners are strongly encouraged to be responsible for the actions of their dogs and clean up after them when necessary. They are also asked to use the facility in the manner for which it is intended.

Please note that it is possible to have the bins emptied between the regular (fortnightly) collection by contacting the Parish Council clerk [email protected] and providing the relevant details.

  • Village Noticeboard – Public Usage @ June 2017

The public use of the village noticeboard (situated in the bus shelter at the junction between The Street and Foulsham Road) was discussed at the June 2017 Parish Council meeting. It was clarified that the Parish Council does not want to impose any restrictions on its use. It follows that anyone can use the noticeboard to publicise an event, advertise services, advertise items for sale etc. and no prior permission is needed.

The Council encourages the public to use the right hand side of the noticeboard only as the left hand side is needed to post Council related material and asks that notices are removed as soon as they become irrelevant.

The Council advises that great care is taken when gaining access to the noticeboard as the doors are hinged at the bottom, so the door frames must be lowered carefully. Similarly, users must ensure the doors are closed securely afterwards. In all instances, safe use of the noticeboard is the responsibility of the people wishing to use it. Any problems or faults with the structure of the noticeboard and/or the notices posted, should be reported to the Parish Clerk in the first instance.

  • Highways Maintenance – Local Area Teams

The Community and Environmental Services department of Norfolk County Council (NCC), which covers Highways, has recently sent a letter to Town and Parish Councils to inform them of a reorganisation of our Local Highways Maintenance Teams. This can be downloaded here.

For the purposes of highways maintenance, Norfolk is divided into a North, West and South zone, each with sectors. As far as Hindolveston is concerned, it is in North 1 sector and is under the remit of Mr Steve White who is based in Aylsham. A map showing the regional sectors can be downloaded here.

Reporting a Problem with the Roads

Highways advise that the best way to report a problem is via the Roads and Transport section of the NCC website, the click on ‘Report a problem’. If you would like to track the status of your report you will need to create a customer account if you have not already registered or sign in to your existing customer account before reporting.

Registering is straight forward but not absolutely necessary to report a problem. The advantage of registering is that you can return to the website later to track progress.
